Emmy Recap: Best-Worst-Bore...

If you watched the 2011 Emmy's on Sunday, you know clearly that hands down- Gwyneth was the BEST DRESSED!! Looking flawless per usual, her daring mid-drift baring Pucci dress was a perfectly fresh style on the red carpet...

Some other favorites of mine were of Cat Deeley in Monique Lhullier.  Although I thought the clutch was a bit much for the whimsical dress- she looked fabulous...

... & of course, the saying is true, sometimes a break up does the body good!  Minka Kelly, who recently went her separate ways from Yankee's Derek Jeter, looked chic in navy lace- perfect for the autumn season! This Christian Dior gown looks immaculate on Minka & was definitely in my top 3 faves...

Now- on the Worst Dressed.. & unfortunately, there were too many in this category :-/  To be honest, I am always a bit confused by Claire Danes' choices in fashion?  This Oscar De La Renta gown does absolutely nothing for the shape of her body & frankly, the design is distracting & look similar to a prom dress...

If you watched the pre-show (fyi the best part) then you saw Ryan Seacrest interview & put Padma Lakshmi on the 'glam cam'... talk about borrring!  They began to show clips of other stars on the red carpet because her tone was so lethargic & frankly her gown was lifeless too.  The fabric on this Armani Prive dress, did not do her body any justice & I am beyond confused about that seam right down the middle of her body!?

Yikes! Jane Krakowski in Silver- literally silver!  Some adored this look & others like myself- ehh not so much.  First of all, it does not look age appropriate.  Second, if you are going to do something that extreme of a shade of silver, you  cannot be bronzed like a pumpkin!  The overall look is extreme- bleach blonde hair, orange skin, & a silver sheer gown look trashy, rather than classy...

I decided to add a little section of Pure Boredom.  I didn't love, nor hate these gowns, I was just simply bored by the overall look of them.  I typically adore Kate Winslet & her modern, sophisticated, womanly style.  But Kate wore a red Elie Saab & just. looked. tired.  She looked exhausted, she didn't carry herself the way she normally does & the dress itself could not hold the reins...

Katie Holmes wore classic Calvin Klein & I am still torn on this look because I don't love it, but I definitely do not hate it either?  I just wish sometimes she would take a little more risk in her style instead of being so vanilla all the time.  She is, without a doubt, a very classy & beautiful woman, but the high-tousled-pony tail-bun.. was not enough of a risk for me...

And of course, a favorite of many, Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang.. blahhh.  She constantly does this look!  We get it, you are curvy & voluptuous, try something new!  She does this rouged look virtually every time she walks the red carpet to emphasize disguise her curves & it is just getting old now...

Outdoor Autumn Wedding Inspiration...

Here in MN, our outdoor color palette is dramatically changing, which provides beautiful new shades for the upcoming wedding season...

A great way to adjust to the change would be to incorporate outdoor features.  Below are some of my favorite ideas for bringing attributes from the Fall season- into your wedding...

DIY Autumn Candles...

Everyone loves the smell of Autumn! Mixtures of scents of Vanilla, Pumpkin & Spices fill our homes this time of year!  There are so many fun DIY projects for the upcoming season, involving table deco & candles...

One of my favorites is this one!  Grab a bag of apples- remember to find 'pretty' ones with equal shades of green & red...

Find a knife & pen in your kitchen.  Mark around the top your apples with a pen & gently cut a round circle about an inch deep into your apple...

Buy your favorite Autumn Scents in multiple different votive candle styles (fyi- votives work better than tea lights for this type of diy).  Slip the candles into the new hole you have cut in your apples...

This is what you get!  A creative new way to display your favorite scents!

End of Summer Seasonal Sale: Do's & Don'ts...

Without a doubt, Color Blocking, Bohemian, & the Boyfriend look, were the 3 most predominant trends of the summer!  As we get closer to Fall, you are probably thinking, "What do I do with it now?!"  While you peruse the aisles of your favorite stores & notice all of those items now on sale for the season, follow this guide on what to purchase on sale & what to pass on.

Remember This?

Cobalt is a fabulous color for fall & is trending like crazy! Lucky for you, cobalt was a vital color palette during the Color Blocking Trend & is now on sale.  Purchase bold cobalt accessories & simple styles...

You will more than likely not see Color Blocking travel into a fall trend, so my suggestions are to pass on colors mixed together in that blocking arrangement...

Remember This?

The great thing about Bohemian style is that it is versatile to so many seasons!  The Maxi Dress was an imperative piece to this style collection & will be a classic for summers to come.  As you see this boho cotton gowns on sale, Do purchase!  Keep the color palette neutral (NO patterns) & it will easily become a staple item in your closet from summer to summer...

The feather-fringe-crochet look to the Bohemian style, was slightly over done & would not be something I would purchase at the end of the season sale.  Still a fun trend, but not something that I would waste $ on because it is not often I find myself wearing those individual pieces...

Remember This?

Stealing your boyfriend's look was a fun & classic style for a laid back summer look.  Think boyfriend jeans, fedoras, large watches & oversized sweaters.  These sweaters are great staple items for your closet & will work flawlessly into your fall seasonal style.  Again, keep the color palette neutral & Do purchase these fun sweaters on sale...

I am so beyond over the baggy t-shirt look!  It was a style that was overdone & intended to look sloppy- yet pulled together?  I don't know, but regardless, Do not spend your $ on these t-shirts on sale...

5 Staple Items That Your Closet MUST Have This Fall...

There are so many great new styles to try for Fall 2011, but here are 5 new staple items that you should have in your closet for the upcoming season...

1. The Perfectly-Tailored-Over Embellished Flair Leg- Trouser...

A well fitting trouser is perfect for any occasion!  Do not skimp on the tailoring- be sure to have them sized to fit comfortable in the waist, snug in the tush, & lightly tapered through the thighs...
(Ps: Every chic woman should have a go-to seamstress on call!)
1. Chloe 2. Oasis 3. Ralph Lauren

2. Chain Link-Over-the-Shoulder-Purse...

Quilted or glassy embellished, a simple chain link purse should be elegant & an item that you can see yourself bringing out occasionally for years to come.  In college, a dear friend of mine was given (in my eyes a heirloom) a to-die-for, Navy Quilted Chanel Gold Linked Purse from her Mother.  Her mother had purchased it when she was in college & oddly enough, a classic look is always in style...
1. Marc Jacobs  2. Tory Burch  3. Lanvin

3. Chunky-Heel-Oxfords...

I love the look & comfort of a timeless oxford & have recently become even more obsessed with them with a heel!  Perfect chunky, wedged or thin- adding a heel to this classic shoe is perfect with patterned tights for the upcoming fall season...

1. Mix No. 6  2. Aldo  3.  Fergie

5. Velvet-Statement-Blazer...

You already know my obsession with blazers & if you don't, they are the perfect item to dress up or dress down any look, depending on your accessories.  Without looking too Hugh Hefner like, this look is very traditional- yet while making a statement.  I first saw this trend come about through J.Crew in so many great fall colors & was immediately SOLD!

1. Miu Miu  2. D&G  3. J.Crew

5. Small-Pops-Of-Leopard-Print...

You are going to see leopard all over the place this upcoming season.  As the trend takes off more- stay chic & keep it simple! I can promise you that all the great fashion mags will feature "Do's & Don'ts" with Leopard Print because it will be overdone.  To avoid that, keep your look mysterious with subtle hints of animal prints...

1. Wet Seal  2. Mod Cloth  3. Alexander McQueen 4. Asos 5. Lodis

Capes! More formally known as a 'Trench'... these fabulous mini coats are perfect for Fall & are classically stylish!  Take a Peek at a few Looks that I put together for you...

Keep the color tones warm & the features simple...

This Fall Season, I am all about trying a look that I normally wouldn't try. I love these capes & the rugged combat boots are totally my thing- yet I typically would never try earmuffs/headband with a bow?  I put the look all together & tried something that I normally wouldn't (earmuffs) & loved the overall look!  Normally I say, stick to what you know looks good, but I think I am changing my mind a bit to try some new, fun stuff...

Love. Love. LOVE this entire look!  Paired with a dark denim skinny jean... perfection!

Check Back on Monday for some Fabulous New Fall Trends!!
